Safer, quicker ADT vehicles hit the streets.
You might have seen them already - a range of new ADT Armed Response vehicles, complete with bold ADT branding - on the streets of Johannesburg. The new models, state-of-the-art Toyota Yaris 1.0 T1´s, come equipped with superior safety features such as airbags and ABS brakes. The new-generation Toyotas provide better road-holding and cornering ability, too, as well as fewer blind spots. All of these features increase safety for drivers and improve response capability. ADT tested four different vehicles over a two month period, and the Toyota Yaris was the ultimate choice. Keith Alberts, Group Director, Operations, explains: “We wanted to find a vehicle to meet two key objectives. Firstly, it had to have good handling capabilities with minimum blind spots to assist our officers in avoiding accidents on the road. Secondly, if our officers were to be involved in an accident, we wanted a vehicle that would offer them protection and to prevent them from suffering major injuries where ever possible. We believe that the Yaris meets both these objectives.” ADT will further customise the vehicles to make the doors bullet resistant, while a “smash and grab” resistant film will cover the windows to give reaction officers an extra layer of safety when confronting criminals. It is expected that over 800 Toyota Yaris´ will be purchased nationwide over the next 12 months, so look forward to seeing more of them on the roads in your neighbourhood. |
