Dear resident We anticipated that crime would increase directly after the World Cup and, therefore, ensured that we took those strategies which worked so well for us between June 11 and July 11 forward to counter any upsurge. I’m pleased to report that our preparations have again proven successful - crime has either remained stable or decreased in the majority of our suburbs over the past month. However, there are suburbs in which crime has escalated and we have had to go back to the drawing board to formulate renewed plans and remedies for these areas. House breakings and armed robberies remain of major concern and commercial properties are still being plagued by “customers” with ill intentions. There is no doubt that swift reaction to such trends yields positive results, as was recently demonstrated in the West Rand. Our operational executives sprang into action when four house break incidents in Wilro Park, two in Helderkruin and one in Roodekrans occurred in a five-day period. All incidents occurred between 09:00 and 12:00 and the modus operandi was to gain entry by forcing open the burglar bars and smashing the windows. ADT tightened the security net around the affected streets and when an alarm was activated at a property in Wilro Park on July 29, we responded immediately and managed to catch a house break suspect on the property with stolen goods in his hands! This was only one of several apprehensions made by ADT officers during the past month and these successes include the apprehension of three armed robbery suspects inside a shop in Witpoortjie on July 4. We commend each and every officer involved in these apprehensions. Their work is unpredictable and dangerous as was demonstrated by the senseless killing of one of our Vaal region Reaction Officers, Lazarus Matla, when he responded to an alarm activation at a property in Meyerton, on July 14. This tragedy is another stark reminder of just how violent and dangerous criminals can be and how, unfortunately, as we have seen, such criminals continue to wreck lives on a daily basis. ADT is committed to arming our communities with the knowledge tools they need for protection and, in line with this, has rolled out a series of informative crime-related seminars in our communities. One of the first is focused on hijackings and teaches essential hijack prevention guidelines. Please look out for your invitation to one of these seminars in your area and we hope to see you there! Until then, please take our regular crime alerts to heart and share them with your family and friends. Also, make use of our meet and greet service – phone us to meet you on your way home and we will escort you to your front door. Your safety remains our top priority.
