Testimonial: Anneke (Chairwoman B3)

On Tuesday 29 June, Officer Simon Boloi was patrolling the Garsfonten B3 community when he noticed smoke coming from the garage of a house in the area. He immediately sounded the alarm and called in the Fire Department as well as trying to notify the residents of the house (resident is not an ADT client). After much effort Officer Baloi was able to break open the garage door. where he found that the resident, an elderly man, had gassed himself with his car exhaust fumes.

Officer Baloi broke open the car door and immediately tried to administer CPR to the man, who was unconscious. Unfortunalely. Officer Baloi arrived too late and the elderly gentleman was proclaimed dead at the scene due to suicide.

Results: Officer Baloi was grief stricken at the loss of the elderly gentleman, as he was unable to save his life. He was sent for trauma counselling as he was blaming himself for not arriving in time to save the man. Officer Baloi attended the gentleman's funeral to sympathise and convey his condolences to the deceased.

On behalf of the Gars B3 community, I would like to thank Simon Baloi, and commend him for his actions on Tuesday 29th June. His keen alertness made him the first person to detect smoke coming from the garage door. He immediately sounded the alarm, calling for a fire engine and then proceeded to try and alert anyone inside the house, and finally assisted other members of the community - who had arrived on the scene - to force open the doors and try gain entry to the garage. In the midst of a tragedy, we could experience hope and grace through his willingness to be there and do the best that he could do. It was too late to save the man, but Simon, you did enough, and we salute you. Simon's heartfelt sorrow over the death of a man he'd never met touched us deeply as a community. Thank you Simon for the services rendered above and beyond the call of duty.

Simon is a very special person. I've been working with him approximately a month, he is very reliable, always on his post and interaction between him and the community is excellent! The fact that he also attended the funeral today shows that his work is more than just a job.
