Mosque Safety Tips
Protect Yourself and Your Family Against Crime:
In light of the recent robbery incidents that occurred at the Juma Mosque in Kerk Street and the increasing number of muggings on Diagonal Street, ADT Security has issued its Muslim clients with some information on how to keep safe during this time.
Freddy Mazibuko – Operations Manager of ADT Alberton says there are some simple precautions congregants should keep in mind when going to Mosque that can help alleviate risk. “When leaving your home or place of work for Mosque, make sure you close all of your curtains and leave a light on above the front door so that if it is dark upon your return, you are able to get in easily without having to fumble with your keys,” he says.
- Mazibuko recommends people always enter Mosque in groups of three or more and don´t carry any valuables with them. “Watches, cell phones and jewelry should be left at home or in your car.”
- Mazibuko adds that, “You should check that you're not being followed on your way to Mosque and back. Be aware of anything that is out of place when returning home. If something is amiss, your private security company or the SAPS should be contacted immediately.”
- Mazibuko confirms that ADT will be especially vigilant during this period especially around Diagonal Street where muggers take advantage of the poor lighting.
