A private security officer has been praised for his quick response which ensured an Arboretum family were unharmed.
The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre received a panic alarm signal from a Via Cassiandra home at 04h00 after a resident discovered intruders in his yard. The intruders had made their way to the front door of the property and were trying to force it open whilst the home owner was trying to hold the door closed. Armed Response Officer (ARO), Petrous Ndlovu, was immediately dispatched and arrived at the property within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with PTT (Push-to-talk) devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a customer’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In emergency situations such as these, we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner,” says Fidelity ADT’s Branch Manager for Richard’s Bay, Rian Buys.
Upon arrival, ARO Ndlovu entered the yard and immediately spotted the suspects who fired shots towards the officer whilst running away. Fortunately no one was injured and the family, although shaken, were unharmed.
“I would like to commend ARO Ndlovu for his swift response and bravery. I encourage the community to take the necessary safety precautions by installing outdoor detection devices and electric fencing which can assist in activating the alarm system before an opportunistic criminal can get to your home. This serves as an early warning and is often enough to scare them away before they can cause any harm or damage,” concluded Buys.
