Two private security officers have been praised for their quick response which led to the arrest of a suspected thief. The suspect is now in police custody.
The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre recently received an alarm signal from a local church based in Overport and immediately dispatched Armed Response Officers (ARO), Innocent Fakude and Andreas Ngcobo who arrived at the Spark’s road premises within minutes.
The ARO’s noticed that one of the main church gates were open and immediately conducted a perimeter check. They soon spotted two trespassers attempting to flee on foot and gave chase. One of the trespassers was successfully apprehended and the second managed to escape. The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of the local South African Police Service (SAPS).
“Trespassing and common theft are prevalent in places of worship and schools within our communities. I encourage them to ensure that their alarms are maintained in order to make sure that everything is functioning properly. It is also important to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals,” says District Manager for Fidelity ADT KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.
Govender commended the ARO’s for their quick response which ensured that a criminal has now been placed behind bars and urged residents to remain vigilant at all times. “Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”
