A copper thief got more than he bargained for when he was caught red-handed and apprehended in Westville.
Fidelity ADT Security Officer, Alfread Ntenza, received an alert from a local resident that there were theft in progress in Martin Crescent. Officer Ntenza immediately called for backup and proceeded to investigate. Upon further investigation he found that a suspect was attempting to steel water pipes.
The suspect was caught red-handed busy cutting the water pipes from the Martin Crescent property, and was successfully apprehended and handed over for arrest to members of the Westville South African Police Service (SAPS).
“We are proud of the officer’s quick response which ensured that the thief has been placed behind bars. We have seen tremendous success with our Localised Security Schemes as these officers has made valuable contributions to the safety of these communities. This is another example of how collective efforts by the officers and community members can assist in preventing crime within a footprint or street” said Fidelity ADT’s District Manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.
