Any home security system should be tested regularly to make sure it is working properly. That is the lesson for all George residents, says a local armed response company, after an arrest in Pacaltsdorp recently (Monday 15 July).
“Our monitoring centre received an alarm signal from an address in Beach Road and we dispatched an armed response officer, Shaun van Rooyen, to investigate,” explains Pieter Meiring, Fidelity ADT branch manager for the Garden Route area.
On arrival, the officer found signs of forced entry. With the assistance of a colleague who arrived as backup, a search of the property was conducted.
“Two suspects were located, who both tried to evade arrest when they saw the officers. One managed to get away but is alleged accomplice was successfully apprehended and handed over into police custody on a charge of house robbery,” says Meiring.
“George residents are encouraged to make sure that their alarm systems are armed when leaving their homes or even before going to bed.”
