A private security officer has been praised for his quick response which led to the arrest of a suspected thief. The suspect is now in police custody.
The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre recently received a panic alarm signal from a Collington Road home in Hatton Estate and immediately dispatched Armed Response Officer (ARO), Innocent Mkhwanazi, who arrived at the property within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with PTT (Push-to-talk) devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a client’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In emergency situations such as these, we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner,” says District Manager for Fidelity ADT KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.
As soon as ARO Mkhwanazi arrived at the home he obtained a description of the suspect from the resident who had pushed his remote panic alarm after spotting him in his yard.
ARO Mkhwanazi set off to patrol the area in search of the suspect. The suspect was soon spotted in Underwood Road and was successfully apprehended and handed over for arrest to members of the local South African Police Service (SAPS).
Govender commended the resident for providing an accurate description of the suspect and praised Officer Mkhwanazi for his quick response and vigilance. “Well done to Officer Mkhwanazi for his speedy response which ensured that the suspect has now been placed behind bars. Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous. Try to memorise their physical details and clothing in order to provide an accurate description to the authorities.”
