Two suspects have been arrested by Hermanus SAPS, after they were caught in possession of a large quantity of mussels recently.
“A security officer with Hermanus Public Protection reported seeing two men sitting close to the restrooms at Grotto Beach, and that he believed they had mussels in their possession. He asked for backup from the HPP team,” explains Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager at Fidelity ADT.
“The HPP monitoring centre deployed a response vehicle to assist, while also alerting the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Together, they took the two suspects into custody and handed them over into custody of the Hermanus SAPS.”
Boshoff says the men were searched and two bags containing 215 mussels were found in their possession.
In a separate incident, HPP officers helped with another arrest when they observed a suspect allegedly stealing a bag out of a parked car in Long Street. HPP is supported by Fidelity ADT.
“Our CCTV operators saw a suspicious acting individual early one morning, and observed how he proceeded to open the door of a parked car and take a bag from it. The operators alerted the police and HPP officers in the area while following the suspect’s movement,” says Boshoff.
The suspect was later located where he was sitting in Swallow Park, where he was apprehended before being handed over into police custody.
