Two private security officers have been praised for their quick response which led to the arrest of a suspected thief. The suspect is now in police custody.
The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre recently received a panic alarm signal from a Boom Street home in Pietermaritzburg and immediately dispatched Armed Response Officers (ARO), Sithembiso Memela and Sibusiso Mtolo, who arrived at the property within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with PTT (Push-to-talk) devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a client’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In emergency situations such as these, we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner,” says District Manager for Fidelity ADT KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.
As soon as the ARO’s arrived at the home they conducted a perimeter check and soon spotted the suspect who was attempting to flee over a boundary wall. The suspect was successfully apprehended and handed over for arrest to members of the local South African Police Service (SAPS).
Govender commended the ARO’s for their quick response and vigilance. “Well done to Officers Memela and Mtolo for their speedy response which ensured that the suspect has now been placed behind bars. Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous. Try to memorise their physical details and clothing in order to provide an accurate description to the authorities.”
