Saturday 17 September was Spruit Day, the annual clean-up of the Braamfontein Spruit which saw residents, school kids volunteering their time to take part in the initiative. The Community Policing Forum and the Bryanston East Community Forum were stationed at Riverside Park, opposite the Riverside Shopping Centre, welcoming all who came to volunteer. “This year we had a number of different activities planned,” says Bryanston East Spruit Day organiser, Ian Tumiel. “Besides the litter collection we also did some tree planting, replacing the bollards (traffic barriers) along River Road and building an outdoor gym.”
Joburg City Parks generously donated 75 indigenous trees that were planted and Green Beings, an organisation dedicated to sustainable living, were present to assist. ADT sponsored the materials for the new bollards as well as the outdoor gym. “We have been involved in Spruit Day for the last few years and believe it is a great way to connect with our community in the area. The new outdoor gym will encourage residents to get active and enjoy the outdoors in a safe environment.
We thank all the residents who got involved and joined us on the day,” says Theunis Kotze, General Manager ADT Inland Region.
