Hermanus camera teams help in 3 arrests

Three suspects have been arrested in Hermanus in recent days, in connection with separate incidents. Local armed response and security officers were able to use information generated by the town’s security camera network to ensure the arrests.

The first incident, explains Fidelity ADT’s Hermanus Branch Manager Marius Boshoff, took place just before 2am on the 4th of April 2021.

“The camera operators at Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) saw two men pushing a bicycle along Church Street. Considering that this was also during the curfew time, operators alerted the closest HPP patrollers to investigate,” says Boshoff. HPP is a ratepayer funded initiative in partnership with Fidelity ADT.

“The two men were stopped and questioned, and the explanation they gave as to how they came into possession of the bike was quickly proven to be incorrect. One of the suspects was taken into custody and has been charged with possession of suspected stolen property.”

The HPP camera team was involved in the second arrest as well, which took place two days later (just before midnight on 6 April 2021).

“They observed two suspects loitering in the CBD and proceeded to monitor their movement. When they saw them moving into the Eastcliff residential area, the camera team alerted HPP security patrollers to intercept the suspects. A search of the two led to the discovery of housebreaking implements, and they were taken into custody,” says Boshoff.

“Well done to the HPP camera team for again being on top of their game.”

Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) is a non-profit company (NPC), established to provide public safety and top-up cleansing services in a geographical designated area of Hermanus, Western Cape. It is funded by the ratepayers through the Overstrand Municipality Special Rating Area By-law and Policy. Visit for more info.
