Historic George site thanks security company for its work

The Old Toll House found at Montagu Pass recently honored a local armed response company for their services in keeping the famous premises safe.

Fidelity ADT received the award of appreciation for their contribution to protect the valuable assets that are on site at the Old Toll House. This award was handed over just before the festive season and illustrates the importance of community partnerships to benefit historical sites and similar non-profits in George and surrounds.

“George has a special community where partnerships are key to help everyone prosper. It has been a challenging year for all businesses and for sites such as the Old Toll House who rely on tourism. It has been a privilege for us to stand by them and support them this year,” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for the Garden Route, Pieter Meiring.

The Montagu Pass and Toll House were constructed between 1844 and 1847, and declared a national monument in 1972. The pass provided quick access to George for farmers from the little Karoo and Langkloof. The building has since received much love and attention in the ongoing process to preserve a piece of history, as the oldest unaltered pass still in use in South Africa.

Eric Gouws received the award on behalf of Fidelity ADT, from the Old Toll House Project Chairperson Gerda Stoltz.

“We feel honored to have received such an award and would like to thank the Old Toll House as well as Gerda and her team for the kind gesture. Our objective remains to protect the people of George and its assets, especially now as we move towards the festive season,” says Meiring.
