Police in Klapmuts arrested one suspect in connection with trespassing on a farm in the area. Investigations will determine whether he can be linked to another incident of trespassing and a burglary in the same area, earlier that evening.
“One of our armed response officers was dispatched to investigate a report of suspicious persons noticed on a farm in Klapmuts (just after 11pm on Sunday night 31 May 2020). On his arrival, he searched the property and successfully located one of the suspects,” says Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager for Fidelity ADT.
The suspect was apprehended and handed over into police custody. SAPS will investigate whether he can be linked to other incidents in the area, earlier that same evening.
“It appears that this suspect was one of a group which could be linked to a housebreaking in the area earlier. They had reportedly jumped the fence after being pursued by police, and ended up on the property where one of the group was eventually apprehended,” says Hulme.
“Thank you to our armed response officers who are still hard at work during lockdown, keeping people of Klapmuts and surrounding areas safe. Please make sure you have the contact details of your local police station or community safety organisation saved on your phone, so that you can raise the alarm immediately if you see anything suspicious.”
