The Greenwood Park South African Police Service (SAPS) recently took custody of a suspected thief thanks to the rapid response of a local security company.
The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre received an alarm activation from business units in Redhill and immediately dispatched Armed Response Officer (ARO), Siyabonga Tshekela, who arrived at the Moreland Drive premises within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with in-vehicle tablet devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a customer’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In any emergency situation we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner. In addition, and in line with regulations to control and prevent the spread of the coronavirus we have provided all our staff with the necessary PPE equipment to ensure the safety of both our employees and customers,” explains Fidelity ADT’s District Manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Vaughan Pillay.
Upon arrival, ARO Tshekela spotted a suspect at the back of the premises attempting to flee on foot. He gave chase and successfully apprehended the intruder. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had made a hole in the perimeter fencing in order to gain access to the business units. The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of the Greenwood Park SAPS.
“I would like to commend ARO Tshekela for his swift response and bravery which resulted in another criminal being placed behind bars. I encourage both the public and business owners to remain vigilant. Criminals are opportunistic and are often on the lookout for soft targets. We have seen an increase in security technologies being implemented at various businesses due to the fact that CCTV solutions and other technologies have become a lot more affordable. Contact your security company to conduct a thorough security assessment to ensure that you are adequately secured,” concluded Pillay.
