Residential security measures should include vehicle safety

Residents of George have been reminded that home security measures should also cover vehicles on a property.

This follows a recent incident where a Fidelity ADT and Blanco Neighbourhood Watch (BNHW) member were involved in recovering stolen goods after a vehicle was broken into at a Blanco property.

“A resident made contact with the BNHW who were doing patrols with one of our off duty staff members, Eric Gouws who is part of their group. A description was given of a suspect who jumped over a fence to break into a vehicle on their property” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Garden Route, Pieter Meiring.

On their way to the property BNHW member Deon Van Der Rijst saw the suspect and stopped. The two members gave chase and whilst managing to catch the suspect he broke free and fled. Fortunately leaving behind the stolen items from the vehicle.

“We commend Eric for his efforts and for being so involved in the fight against crime within his community. Fidelity ADT remains committed to protecting the George community and his efforts to go the extra mile is a testimony of this commitment” Meiring added.

Eric and Deon managed to return the stolen goods to its rightful owner whilst they continued to patrol the area in search of the suspect.

Meiring added that resident need to be extra vigilant “the Blanco and Heather Park areas indicate an increase in vehicle break-ins. Please ensure that your vehicles are protected, locked and secured at all times. Do not leave any valuables inside your vehicle and try and park behind a closed gate where possible.”
