Local security officers have been praised for their rapid response which prevented a fire from spreading at a Newlands home.
The Fidelity ADT Security Monitoring Centre received an alarm activation from a customer and immediately dispatched Armed Response Officers (ARO), Kevin Govender and Sihle Mkhize who arrived at the Spring Hill Road property within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with in-vehicle tablet devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a customer’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In any emergency situation we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner. In addition, and in line with regulations to control and prevent the spread of the coronavirus we have provided all our staff with the necessary PPE equipment to ensure the safety of both our employees and customers,” explains Fidelity ADT’s District Manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Vaughan Pillay.”
Upon arrival the customer informed the officers that he had noticed smoke coming out of the bathroom window at his neighbour’s house. Both officers immediately investigated and found a rear room on fire. They opened a window, fed a hose pipe through it and successfully managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread to the rest of the house. The home owner, who was not home at the time, was contacted and notified of the incident accordingly.
“Fires can be deadly and devastating. Installing smoke alarms that are linked to an armed response service will give you peace of mind that help is on its way in the event of a fire emergency, when every second counts. I encourage everyone to spend a bit of time thinking about fire prevention and taking steps through our Fidelity Fire Solutions division to ensure their loved ones are protected from the possible outbreak of a fire,” concludes Pillay.
