Two suspects were apprehended in Hermanus after being caught with stolen chairs from a local restaurant. This followed after their suspicious activities were spotted by the Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) CCTV operators.
“The town’s network of CCTV cameras has proven to be instrumental in many of the arrests made last year and this was again the case in a recent incident. We are proud to be associated with Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) and the committed men and women who patrol our streets,” says Marius Boshoff, Hermanus Branch Manager of Fidelity ADT. HPP is staffed and managed by Fidelity ADT.
The CCTV operators noticed how the two suspects made their way down Aberdeen Street with what appeared to be stolen items. The operators’ suspicions were raised which led to an alert being shared with local HPP patrol officer Andile Peter as well as his supervisor, Juan Havenga and the local Westcliff Neighbourhood Watch.
All parties responded to the area within minutes where they found and confronted the suspects. It was later determined that the chairs were in fact stolen from a local restaurant in the same street and that the suspects had allegedly climbed over the wall and removed the chairs from the courtyard.
“The suspects were arrested by the SAPS and the restaurant owner was contacted. He arrived at the police station to open a case of trespassing and theft against the suspects.
“I would like to thank and congratulate all parties involved for their swift action in the matter. It is important that all cases such as these are reported at local police stations as this will assist the authorities in correctly allocating resources and provide insight into criminal trends and activities,” Boshoff concluded.
