Suspected copper ‘thief’ nabbed thanks to HPP team

A suspect was taken into custody recently on suspicion that he was in possession of stolen property. The arrest was made possible thanks to an alert raised by the CCTV camera operators attached to Hermanus Public Protection (HPP).

“The CCTV operators spotted a suspect walking in town carrying a very large bag which raised their suspicion. A call was made to HPP Supervisor Sam Xhonywa to investigate,” explains Marius Boshoff, branch manager for Fidelity ADT in Hermanus. HPP is staffed and managed by Fidelity ADT.

Officer Xhonywa located the suspect and questioned him while also asking to search the bag he was carrying. It was found to be filled with copper, and the suspect was unable to offer a plausible explanation how he came to have the copper in his possession.

“Well done to officer Xhonywa for his quick response, which led to the suspect being arrested. He will face a charge of being in possession of possible stolen property,” says Boshoff.
