Hermanus security officers arrested three suspects in and around town in recent days, thanks to the support provided by CCTV cameras erected around the area. These cameras are owned and monitored by Hermanus Public Protection (HPP).
“I must take my hat off to the men and women of HPP who keep a watchful eye on our beautiful town. It is especially the camera operators that are important parts of our security efforts and our company is proud of our partnership with the HPP team,” says Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager at Fidelity ADT.
In the first incident (at around midnight on Thursday 6 August 2020) the CCTV camera operators monitored a suspect walking out of the CBD, carrying a large backpack. His demeanour raised suspicion and local HPP officers were alerted.
“The suspect in question was located close to the police station, where he was stopped and the backpack was searched. Officers discovered several dangerous items used in housebreakings, including four large knives and two pairs of scissors. He was handed over to the Hermanus SAPS,” says Boshoff.
In the second incident (on Friday 7 August 2020) the CCTV camera team observed two female suspects loitering in the CBD at around lunchtime. HPP officers in the area stopped the women to question them and to search a bag they were carrying. This led to the discovery of stolen items of clothing to the value of around R8000.
“These two female suspects were also handed over into the custody of Hermanus SAPS,” says Boshoff.
“I would like to thank our colleagues for their excellent work, and at the same time warn business owners to remain vigilant and cautious. Ideally business owners should make use of the latest security technology to protect their property and assets. They can contact our team should they need advice or assistance on available options.”
