A private security officer has been praised for his bravery, which led to the arrest of a suspected thief. The suspect is now in police custody.
At approximately 4am on Wednesday, 10 May, a Sucrose Crescent resident activated his panic alarm after witnessing a suspect in his garden. The Fidelity ADT Security Monitoring Centre immediately dispatched armed response officer, Khanyisani Nxumalo.
Arriving at the Mount Edgecombe property within minutes, armed response officer Nxumalo proceeded to conduct a perimeter check. While doing so, he found the suspect on the roof of the property.
Armed response officer Nxumalo was able to successfully apprehend the suspect, who was handed over for arrest to members of the Phoenix South African Police Service (SAPS).
KZN District Manager for Fidelity ADT, Ivan Govender, commended Officer Nxumalo for his quick response and bravery. “I am proud of the officer’s rapid response and courageousness which ensured that the criminal has now been placed behind bars.”
He encouraged residents to carry remote panic buttons or to have close access to installed security alarm systems in order to call for help quickly in case of an emergency. “Fidelity ADT use auto-dispatch, which immediately sends a response vehicle as soon as a panic alert is received, allowing for even quicker response times.”
