A suspect was recently apprehended in Mdantsane after he was caught trying to steal from a resident’s vehicle.
Johan du Preez, branch manager at Fidelity ADT in East London, explains how the events started. “It appears the suspect had allegedly broken into the customer’s residential property before breaking into the window of a car parked in the backyard. This allowed him access to some of the valuable items inside the car, including a cellphone and a sum of cash.”
The customer heard the commotion outside, and activated his panic alarm when he saw the suspect inside the parked car.
“We use an automated dispatch system, which meant that the closest armed response officer to the address was immediately alerted to respond. Officer Anele Booi received the signal and rushed to the address,” says Du Preez.
On arrival, the officer was able to apprehend the suspect before he could escape. He was handed over into the custody of the Vulindlela SAPS.
“Well done to officer Booi for his quick response, which made sure that one more suspect could be handed over to the police. I urge residents to be vigilant and to immediately contact their security companies or the police if they see any suspicious activity, especially if it is on their property. It is also better not to leave any valuable items inside a parked car,” says Du Preez.
