The collective efforts between a local neighbourhood watch and a private security officer resulted in the recent arrest of a suspected thief. The suspect is now in police custody.
Fidelity ADT Officer, Sakhiseni Zondi, was on duty in the Hatton Estate area when he received notification from the local neighbourhood watch that three suspects had been reported by residents throughout the evening. A description of the suspects was circulated and at 05h00 Officer Zondi and the neighbourhood patrollers noticed a suspect on the M7 matching the description of one of the suspects.
Together they successfully apprehended the suspect and recovered a Garmin, a car radio, a drill and an extension cord. The suspect admitted that he had broken into five premises that night and had stolen the items. The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of the Pinetown South African Police Service (SAPS).
“Congratulations to all involved. The collective efforts of our armed response officers and neighbourhood watch members are unquestionably making a positive contribution to the fight against crime in the Pinetown and surrounding areas,” says Fidelity ADT District Manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Vaughan Pillay.
