Two security officers have been praised for their vigilance which led to the arrest of three suspected thieves. The suspects are now in police custody.
At approximately 14h00 on Tuesday, 15th May, three teenagers stole money from a local Hermanus shop in Long Street and fled on foot. Hermanus Public Protection Officers (H.P.P), staffed and managed by Fidelity ADT, immediately sent out an alert to all H.P.P officers to be on the lookout for these suspects.
“We have a network of H.P.P officers that work closely with our armed response teams and other local authorities. This network of information sharing has proven to work effectively, resulting in several apprehension in Hermanus over the past few months,” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Hermanus, Marius Boshoff.
H.P.P security officers Siyamthanda Tom and Siyabulela Foji were on bicycle patrol and soon spotted the teenagers nearby in Main road, heading out of the CBD. The officers immediately gave chase and successfully apprehend the culprits who were then handed over to the local South African Police Services (SAPS) for arrest.
The store owner positively identified the suspects and the stolen money was returned.
“I would like to congratulate the officers for their excellent efforts in making the arrest, and urge local business owners to remain vigilant. Business owners are encouraged to consider installing CCTV and other necessary security equipment to improve their overall security measures,” concludes Boshoff.
