A sophisticated and hi-tech community control room has achieved many successes since it was implemented almost three years ago, protecting and helping the people of PE.
The Community Information Centre (CIC) was launched at the Fidelity ADT offices in Port Elizabeth during June 2016, and has since formed an integral part in the fight against crime within the Port Elizabeth, Jeffrey’s Bay and East London footprints.
“The CIC has become an essential tool which members of the community can use to report all crime or municipal related issues. This enables all concerns to be reported to one central point which then gets escalated to the relevant authorities. This central hub of information sharing has become a connecting point for our communities as well as all authorities, enabling them to share information in an effective and efficient manner” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Port Elizabeth, Ryan Britz.
The CIC not only creates a platform where authorities can share information, but also accommodates numerous Neighbourhood Watches, Community Policing Forums and other similar entities. The CIC currently sits with approximately 120 of these entities on their books, supporting them in their patrols and other initiatives.
“The CIC has some of the best agents in the business and they have been critical in the success we have experienced so far. There are CIC staff members on duty 24/7 to ensure that we offer continuous support to all role players. They not only wait for reports to come in, but also monitor several Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras within the metro” Britz added.
The combination of LPR technology, equipped staff and a network of operators have ensured that Fidelity ADT and the CIC have achieved great successes over the past three years. These include several arrests made in the areas they monitor through proactive camera alerts and quick deployment of resources when needed.
The CIC has also won a prestigious SAIDSA award in 2018 which was based on the excellent performance from the team.
“The team has thoroughly deserved all the accolades that they have received over the past three years. The CIC controllers are often referred to as the guardian angels of our metros and Fidelity ADT prides itself on the work being done by everyone involved. They have also received regular mentions in the local press and other community newsletters,” says Britz.
The CIC also assists with municipal related issues such as broken street lights, potholes, water leaks etc. Residents are encouraged to make use of their services by calling 086 12 12 210 or 073 766 7447.
