Armed response officers have been praised for their quick response, which led to the arrest of a suspect after he allegedly trespassed at a local primary school.
“Our monitoring centre received multiple alarm signals from a primary school in Thembalethu recently. Considering the large property involved, we deployed two of our armed response officers so that they could safely search the school grounds,” explains Steven Green, Garden Route branch manager at Fidelity ADT.
Dumisa Mila was the first armed response officer to arrive.
“Our officers are well trained so that they know exactly how to respond to an incident where they have to search a large property, such as in this case. Officer Mila and his colleagues investigated the school grounds and heard footsteps on the roof. They also spotted an open class room which had several items lying outside an open door,” says Green.
The suspect was then spotted on the roof and instructed to make his way down. He refused to cooperate, and officer Mila decided to climb up onto the roof where he apprehended the suspect.
“We would like to commend officer Mila for his excellent service and vigilance. He did an excellent job in following protocol effectively and made the correct decisions in the heat of the moment.
“Our officers are often the unsung heroes of society as they put themselves at risk to look after the safety of the greater George community. I thank them for their team work, which led to the arrest of this suspect.
“I am especially proud of them for responding to an incident at a primary school. Anyone that sees institutions of learning as targets for their criminality, should expect to end up behind bars,” says Green.
