A private security officer has been praised for his quick response which led to the arrest of two suspected thieves. Both are now in police custody.
The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre recently received a panic alarm signal from a Kies Avenue house in Reservoir Hills and immediately dispatched Armed Response Officer (ARO), Ntlakanipho Lengisi, who arrived at the property within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with PTT (Push-to-talk) devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a client’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In emergency situations such as these, we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner,” says District Manager for Fidelity ADT KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.
As soon as ARO Lengisi arrived at the home he immediately conducted a perimeter check and soon noticed that a window pane at the front of the property had been broken. Upon closer inspection two suspects were spotted inside the house. The suspects split up and ARO Lengisi immediately called for backup.
One of the suspects was spotted on the roof and jumped off in an attempt to flee but was successfully apprehended. An internal check of the house was conducted and the second suspect was found in the bathroom and apprehended.
Both suspects were handed over for arrest to members of the Sydenham South African Police Service (SAPS).
Govender commended Officer Lengisi for his quick response and bravery. “I am proud of the officer’s rapid response and courageousness which ensured that the criminals have now been placed behind bars.”
He urged residents to remain vigilant at all times. “Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”
