On Sunday, 3 February at 22h00, a Westville resident noticed a trespasser wandering around his back yard and instinctively ran after him and caught him. The resident then instantly activated his panic alarm and the Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre immediately dispatched Armed Response Officer (ARO), Emmanuel Duma who arrived at the Maryvale Road property within minutes.
“All our ARO’s are equipped with PTT (Push-to-talk) devices which enable them to receive auto dispatch signals as soon as a customer’s alarm is activated, enhancing response times. In emergency situations such as these, we are all aware that time is of the essence and we therefore ensure that all our responses are done in an effective and efficient manner,” says Fidelity ADT’s District Community Development Manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Rian Buys.
The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of the local Westville South African Police Service (SAPS).
Buys urged residents to remain vigilant at all times. “Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”
