A suspect is in police custody, thanks to social media and great teamwork between security agencies and role-players in Mount Croix.
“The Community Information Centre (CIC) in Port Elizabeth monitored a message on the Mount Croix community WhatsApp group recently, describing suspicious behaviour in the area. CIC operator Senobia van Rensburg alerted one of our armed response officers in the area, Marco Heugh, and shared a description of the alleged suspect,” explains Ryan Britz, Port Elizabeth branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
By the time officer Heugh arrived in the area, he was able to locate and apprehend the suspect who had allegedly tried to trespass at a property in the area. Damage was also done to the property, in an attempt to gain access to the home.
“I am happy to see how everything worked smoothly in this arrest. The necessary information was shared immediately on social media, which helped our CIC team in raising the alarm and dispatching a response officer,” says Britz.
Following the apprehension, Fidelity ADT representative Oswald October assisted the home owner with reassessing his security measurements following the incident.
The CIC is based at the Fidelity ADT offices in Port Elizabeth.
